GUR Sewing Superstore, formerly GUR Sewing Machines, was established in 1983 by a team of driven individuals who have incredible passion and knowledge of the sewing industry. We started out as traditional retail stores, based in Birmingham and at the Merry Hill Centre in the West Midlands, offering sales and repairs of a vast range of sewing machines.

Our product insight, along with a growing reputation for delivering first-class customer service were the perfect ingredients for an online platform that specialised in sewing products. Within months of the launch of the website, we soon established ourselves as one of the UK’s leading online sewing superstores. As the product range expanded into haberdashery, craft supplies and fabrics, we rebranded and reinvented our business model by changing our name to GUR Sewing Superstore, so it properly reflected the huge range of sewing products now on offer.

We have been accredited suppliers of Pfaff, Elna, Brother, Husqvarna, Janome and Jaguar, along with many other quality brands, for many years, and have secured excellent relationships with suppliers. This gives us the buying power that allows GUR to continue to offer the best deals online in the UK.

OUR HISTORY

In 1983 we opened our first shop in Birmingham and due to the great success of the store, it wasn't long before we had 2 further retail outlets, one based on the Merry Hill complex and another on the outskirts of Birmingham. We invested a lot of time exhibiting at major sewing and craft shows across the UK and really started to establish the GUR brand across the UK. In 2010, with demand at an all-time high and growing reputation amongst the sewing and craft community, we decided to move our business online, which enabled us to reach every area across the UK 24/7. We set up a warehouse in Birmingham, which allowed us more room to stock our customer's favourite products. The warehouse gave us the ability to have much greater buying power from big name brands, this allowed us to pass the discounts we got through to our customers.

As with most businesses in the 21st century, we now only work from our warehouse, although we do still have a showroom above the warehouse, which still gives us an opportunity to meet our customers. We are always happy for customers to visit, and can even arrange demonstrations of new products if requested- you'll also be in the perfect space to pick up all your haberdashery items too!
