Iron On Stabiliser 10m Information

It is important that the embroidery produced by Embroidery Machines should always look perfect, therefore, it is essential that the correct notions are used to achieve this result.

Many fall into the trap of using interfacings to support their fabric but they are not suitable as a backing support for your embroidery.  Interfacings are designed specifically for dressmaking, they are placed in between two pieces of fabric (i.e. collars, cuffs) to add support without stiffness and therefore they have a certain amount of give.

  • Iron-on stabiliser can be used as a backing for all types of appliqué, machine embroidery, and decorative stitching.
  • It has an adhesive coating on one side and is recommended for stabilising fabric during machine embroidery. Even the most intricate designs won't be successful without the correct stabiliser.
  • The iron-on stabiliser is placed under fabric to prevent stitch distortion and puckering. Apply one layer (ironed on) beneath the fabric in an embroidery hoop, ensuring the entire hooped area is covered.
  • After completing the project, place the material on a flat surface and carefully tear away the stabiliser around the design. Removing it gently will not disturb, pull, or loosen the stitches.

Embroidery however needs stabiliser fabric to avoid puckering and it is for this reason that we recommend this stabiliser which, whenever possible should be ironed on.  This will stabilise the fibres of your fabric and prevent distortion.  In the case of some designs where there is heavy embroidery stitching it may be necessary to use two or more layers of stabiliser.

Ensure that the whole area of the fabric being put into the hoop is covered; this will also prevent the fabric from being stretched by the hoop itself.

Once your design is completed, the stabiliser can be torn away.  If you experience a problem when tearing away the stabiliser, run a warm iron over it and this will help it come away from the fabric much more easily.  It is important that you think in terms of stabilisers as opposed to interfacing in order to achieve the kind of beautiful embroidery you expect from your Embroidery Machine.
