Valentine’s Day sewing projects

Valentines Day sewing projects and tutorials

Not long to go before the big day – so you need to get moving…

We love the idea of handmade gifts and items for Valentine’s Day – it makes everything more personal and less commercial and crass.

So with this post, we’ve had a good look round for a variety of internet land projects and tutorials: some are very simple, some more complex.

But they all have one thing in common – they’re all worth the effort!

Heart pot holder

This is quirky, useful beautiful and fun! A lovely tutorial from the A Spoonful of Sugar website.

There’s a useful Valentine heart mitt template to download.

Very straightforward and attractively presented how-to – this useful and functional item will also grace any kitchen: it looks wonderful!

We like: The pattern features a little felt appliquéd heart. Ahhh!

Scrappy Valentine’s Day pincushion

Stephanie at Swoodson Says has provided this pretty as a picture tutorial on the Sew So Easy website. It’s a pin cushion that’s a little on the large size – which we love because it won’t slide down the back of the couch.

There is the added bonus of a heart shaped hand warmer tutorial on this article as well.

We love: “You could also fill it with dried lavendar as a sachet!”

Quilted Valentine’s Day table mat

This simply gorgeous! It’s by Deborah Schlegel and appears on the Art Threads blog.

It utilises fun fabrics and heart shapes and looks so good that you may want to leave it on your table long after the event has passed.

This will take you a little while to complete, so you’ll need to start this now in order to get it ready for the big day.

Look out for: “Using ¼ inch seams, sew together in five strip blocks, mixing up the order of your fabrics.”

Heart pillow

Of the reasons that we most like this article is the fantastic use of colour – a cappuccino theme – deployed on this modern looking pillow.

It appears on the Forth Worth Studio blog piece.

You can also find out about making a cupcake mug rug on here – two for the price of one!

Why it works: “I love the softness and simplicity of this monochromatic pillow.”

Reversible Valentine’s Day bag tutorial

Thanks to the wonderful Lisa on the Cucicucicoo website for this excellent example – which is twice the fun: you just have to flip the bag inside out and you have a whole new one!

This is very detailed tutorial with excellent instructions and very detailed photographs.

We’re really enthusiastic about: Filling the bag with homemade valentines.

Enjoy!
