A live-in carer who’s husband is a brilliant sewer – the perfect combination!
Sandra Davis has an interesting story to tell. British born, she moved to Bulgaria eleven years ago with her husband – but is unable to return there as the borders have been closed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the meantime, she’s working as a live-in carer. The lack of any form of protective equipment has been an issue for Sandra and many of her colleagues. It just so happens that her husband Richard is very handy with a sewing machine, having previously worked in clothing factories in Stoke Newington and Hackney for some very well known companies.
So between them, they came up with an excellent solution – and set to work.
“Everybody is scared of catching the virus so we thought we’d make these masks” explained Sandra.
They consist of three layers, consisting of and outer, inner and lining which is washable. And they’re very comfortable said Sandra.
Richard produces them on his Brother Innov-Is sewing and embroidery machine which he also uses for interlocking.
A mask takes around an hour to produce, involving the material cutting out, the stitching together, the design embroidery and finally the stitching on of the elastic.
They’ve proved to be so popular that Sandra is now supplying them to her fellow carers.
