Wonderful quilts and baby quilts help charities, friends and neighbours
Valerie Eaton from Northern Ireland is a woman on a mission – a quilting mission.
Her wonderful creations spread happiness and comfort to a huge variety of people and organisations. Valerie explained what she does, who she does it for – and provided a few useful quilting tips into the bargain!
This is her story…
“I make quilts for the Tiny Life charity premature baby units in Belfast, Craigavon, and Newry. Besides these, I make baby quilts for friends, relatives and neighbours. These quilts usually are made with machine embroidered blocks, with patchwork blocks.
“I enjoy quiltmaking and make single and double patchwork quilts. Usually seeing a pattern in a book or magazine that I like, or intrigues me. Some of these go to other charities such as the National Autistic Society and the British Heart Foundation.
“Some are on a beds in our home, at the moment I am concentrating on quilts made with my scrap pieces.”
“I am using a Janome Memory Craft 9450 QCP. It has a big space for big quilts. The stitch formation is good. I bought extra feet and other accessories from GUR.
“The acufeed feet are especially useful with 1/4″ foot, stitch in the ditch, and my absolute favourite the open toe foot. Lets me quilt my designs with accuracy, and enjoy playing at the same time.”
