Easter sewing tips from GUR Sewing Machines

Celebrate Easter and set your sewing machine to work with these lovely projects

We love Easter! The days are getting longer, the light brighter, the temperature is (gradually) rising and the garden is just starting to spring into life.

Actually, we haven’t seen much evidence of that temperature thing at the time of writing, but we live in hope…

Never mind! Undaunted we move towards Easter with a chance to fill your house with colour.

Here are some of the more interesting projects we’ve discovered for you…

Fabric Easter Egg Tutorial

We love this one! make them was classy or as vibrant as you wish to, courtesy of the tutorial on the Retro Mama website.

Kim Kruzich, a sewing pattern designer, came up with this Easter goody.

We like: “These are just a bit bigger than real eggs and a terrific way to use up those fabric scraps!”

Bunny Applique Table Runner

The excellent Sewing Loft website is next – and a beautiful how-to from Heather Valentine, the owner/designer behind The Sewing Loft.

This really cute design also includes a link to a simple table runner tutorial, to get you on the right track if you’re not as confident as you might be.

Bonus: there’s even a link to some free bunny patterns if you really get in the mood!

Easter Bunny Cinch Bag Tutorial

More bunnies! Well it is Easter after all!

This time, we’re off to the Patchwork Posse website for an excellent project, courtesy of Becky. And just in case you don’t know exactly what a cinch bag is…

“A cinch bag is so perfect for little hands and egg hunting. They are great to quickly close (easy for little finger to do too!) and can be slung around the arm to be hands free.”

This particular bag features a bunny face applique.

We love: “Zig Zag stitch along the drawn lines for the whiskers”. Cute!

Transform an Old Sweater Into an Adorable Bunny Softie

A new port of call for us now – a splendid tutorial by Eleanna Kotsikou which can be found on the Envato Tuts Plus website.

Upcycling is becoming really popular these days – and this is perfect if you have an old jumper that you don’t wear anymore because it’s got damaged or has (heaven forbid) shrunk in the wash. We’re never, ever guilty of that one of course…

This is one of the most beautifully presented and comprehensive tutorials we’ve seen in a while, featuring really excellent photographs.

Pay attention to this bit: “Turn your pieces inside out. This time the “correct” surface of the fabric should be facing inwards.”
