How Amanda and her sewing machine help her local hospital and charities
Amanda Oldridge from Leeds is passionate about sewing. Armed with her trusty Janome sewing machine, she helps her local hospital and others with the production of a wonderful array of sewing magnificence.
She kindly sent us some photographs and a few tips – and explained all about her passion for helping others.
“These pictures are of things I have made in the last two weeks. The bags with the long handles were donated to my local hospital, St James’s in Leeds and the rest were donated to a charity I am a volunteer for, Bramley Elderly Action. They were sold in their local shop.
“I used my Janome sewing machine to make all these items. I love my Janome sewing machines, they are so easy to use and are real work horses.”
“The bags with the long straps are syringe driver bags, they are used to hold the machines that are connected to the patients by a canular. The pattern and dimensions were given by the hospital. I used fabrics I had left from other projects so in effect they cost nothing to make as did the other items.
“All the items were made using 100% cotton fabric and Gutermann threads.
“I made the triangle coin purses using a pattern I got from an internet site and the other make-up/pencil cases I made are just patterns I made myself.
