Kericho District Hospital in Kenya is the beneficiary of African expedition
Palma, Managing Director of GUR Sewing Machines, recently returned from a hugely motivating trip to Africa – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro as part of the Nishkam Challenge – an expedition that was made possible thank to the generous support of Brother Sewing Machines.
A group described as comprising of “ordinary individuals” consisted of nineteen people with no professional trackers who came together with the sole aim of supporting Kericho District Hospital in Kenya.
The group first became aware of the plight of the Kericho community a couple of years ago when they learned of the terrible circumstances afflicting them – that mothers and babies were dying in the hospital because of a lack of facilities and equipment.
Welcome support from Brother
Preparations for the expedition began many months before the group set out. A huge boost was provided to the group’s efforts by a generous intervention from Brother Sewing Machines.
Palma acknowledged the importance of this contribution to the Challenge.
“Brother’s welcome intervention supplied a significant boost to the efforts of the group, providing a huge benefit for the community of Kericho. We are so pleased that the months of planning by a number of determined individuals and subsequent huge physical effort paid off so well.”
£70,000 raised
The total amount raised so far is around the £70,000 mark – a figured that was considerably enhanced by the fact that all the money raised is going towards proving essential new facilities and support for the mothers and babies.
The entire group travelled at their own expense and paid for all of their own food, hotels and other expenses so that all the funds raised could go to this worthwhile cause.
