How a Jaguar machine made Gill’s return to sewing even more enjoyable than it used to be!

Sewing used to be “a necessity” – now it’s fun

Like many people who were stuck at home way back in March (what a long time ago that seems!), Gill Briggs decided that a new sewing machine would be a useful and productive purchase – not least as she suddenly had a certain amount of time to spare.

“I was really lucky” she told us. “I purchased it before the mad run on sewing machines began – they got so hard to find after that.”

Jaguar – the best kept secret in sewing?

Gill, from North Warwickshire, ordered a Jaguar DQS 401 from GUR Sewing Machines. Jaguar was not a name that she was familiar with – until a friend told her all about them.

“She was so excited about her purchase” said Gill. “She told me how easy it was to use – and the fact that it put the fun back into her sewing.”

And it seems that the advice to Gill about her new purchase was spot on.

“What do you like most about the DQS 410?” she was asked.

“It’s so easy to use, it’s very versatile, reliable, and easy to move around – but for me it’s the easy thread system. I don’t know how I ever did without it!

Gill’s Christmas themed masks are a huge hit with friends, relatives and neighbours

Over the last few months, Gill has sewn curtains, upholstered a sofa – and even replaced a zip on a heavy duty leather jacket (with specialist needles of course). Unsurprisingly though, it’s the face masks that she’s spent most time producing.

Her three layered cotton protective face coverings have proved to be very popular with friends, neighbours and relatives. From general designs, through to signs of the zodiac, poppy and remembrance masks – and now of course Christmas ones.

“Those are the ones that people certainly want now” she said. “Some want happy Rudolf-type ones – and others like something a little more upmarket.”

So it’s fair to say that her friend’s advice about Jaguar machines was sound? we asked. Her reply said it all really!

“I used to think that if there was a fire in my house, I’d grab my hair straighteners and head for the door” she joked. “Now, I’d have to make sure that the sewing machine was on its way out with me as well”.
