Here’s #SewingTipsFriday and some Halloween how-tos

Halloween sewing tips and tutorials

It’s time to set those sewing machines to work!

We’ve got some wonderful Halloween themed how-tos for you today!

But even more excitingly – this is just part of our first ever #SewingTipsFriday event – where we’ll be posting sewing hints, tips and how-tos all day on our Twitter account and Facebook page.

And we’d love to hear your sewing tips – just post them to our Facebook page or on Twitter – and don’t forget the #SewingTipsFriday tag!

And here are our Halloween sewing tutorials – enjoy!

Trick or treat bags

You’ll love this project from Jaime Costiglio – especially if you’re organising a large group of little treasures on the big night out. Colour co-ordinated, with each child having their own personalised bag.

Individually they look great – collectively they look amazing! Your tribe would be the talk of the evening if they were kitted out with these!

DIY easy fabric pumpkin

This is compulsory – it is Halloween after all! And fabric pumpkins are so much less messy than all that mucking about with real ones!

This project is just the job whether you have a sewing machine or not and it comes courtesy of the Made To Sew blog.

Wonderfully clear instructions and photographs make this very straightforward and fun. The final appearance will depend very much on your material choose – so go with something a little out of the ordinary!

Top tip: “Take a measurement at the top and bottom of the grainline to check that it is straight in line with the selvage. This will be certain that the pattern is cut on the bias.”

25 creative halloween buntings and garlands

There are some delightfully wacky ideas on this Flamingo Toes offering from Beverly McCullough.

Here’s something to really get your teeth into (no vampire pun intended) – a total of twenty five varied projects that will really make a difference to you 31st October gathering.

You’ll find all sorts here from (our favourite) the tattered Halloween banner, to some really simple ideas that you can get the kids involved with – such as the simple “Boo” banner or the spider web doily bunting.

Patchwork Pumpkin quilt block and table runner tutorial

Our final port of call for the time being is this rather classy looking offering from the Diary of a Quilter blog. There’s enough here to keep you busy for a while.

The tutorial for the quilt block is a delight – as are some additional patchwork pumpkin projects.

We love: those warm autumnal colours.
